U-turn in Charlton: Bowyer signs contract extension 24 hours after getting slighted by the club
18 June 2019
Lee Bowyer has signed a one-year contract extension with Charlton.
Yesterday the club announced the two parties were unable to reach an agreement as "Lee wanted much more" than they could offer him.
The club emphasised a potential sale of the club was a bigger priority than securing a manager for the coming season.
Lee Bowyer has signed a one-year contract extension with Charlton Athletic after a tumultuous 24 hours.
Extending the contract of the manager who secured promotion might not seem so odd, but in the light of yesterday’s statements from Charlton, it certainly is.
In a long statement on their website, Charlton announced they were unable to reach an agreement with Bowyer due to the club being up for sale and the possibility that a potential new owner may want to appoint his own manager.
