Stadium sales: EFL cases against Championship clubs still ongoing and "could rumble on into next season"
20 May 2020
The EFL still hasn't finalised its stadium-sale cases against Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Reading FC. The commission is not expected to sit until late June.
There might be too many things on the EFL's plate at the moment - and there is a possibility that it may have to push the cases into next season.
If the season is not finished, then the EFL probably can't hand out point deductions to clubs, if they are penalised at all.
The EFL does not have a strong case against any of the clubs as it opened the window for these manoeuvres to take place. What's more, it would be difficult - legally - to condemn the clubs for their valuations.
With each passing day it gets ever more difficult for the EFL to penalise the three clubs whom it believes violated FFP rules when they sold their stadiums to the clubs' owners.
