Sports lawyers: FIFA contract guidelines favour clubs - various legal conflicts lurking

The guidelines from FIFA are not consistent with the unequivocal position under English law. Lawyers find the guidelines laudable while the proposed solution by FIFA is too simplistic.
Despite FIFA's desire that contractual stability remains until the end of an extended season, there are also a myriad of scenarios in which the club and player may not wish to extend player contracts beyond 30th June.
FIFA has tipped the scales back in favour of clubs and the protection of the players' legal rights are vague.
Clubs and players should think twice before adhering to the contract guidelines FIFA sent out in order to help clubs navigate through the rough environment caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Leagues all over Europe have postponed their seasons, some have even cancelled theirs midway through, and therefore clubs would have to play the remaining games after 30th June, at which time many players' contracts run out.
