Canal+ terminates media-rights agreement with French league after decision to end season
1 May 2020
The French pay-television broadcaster informed the league shortly after it announced Ligue 1 and 2 would not resume the season.
Canal+ in April agreed to pay a reduced sum for matches that have already been played – dependent on whether the season resumed or not.
French pay-television broadcaster Canal+ has terminated its contract with the country's Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), according to French newspaper L'Équipe, after it decided to immediately end the current Ligue 1 and 2 seasons.
The LFP earlier this week made the decision, which has resulted in PSG being crowned champions with 10-11 matches remaining, after French prime minister Edouard Philippe said "big sporting affairs" including professional football would not be allowed to return before September.
