Goldman Sachs Greg Carey is one of the most important financiers in global sports, leading financing on more than 40 stadiums.

Carey led €500 million refinancing bail out of stricken Barcelona at ultra-low rates and Goldman have helped underwrite the pending CVC investment in LaLiga.

Banking liquidity and faith in the proposition of live sports has seen football survive the most crippling effects of the pandemic.

One of football’s foremost financiers has told Off The Pitch that sport has survived “a hundred year flood” and that the pandemic has created unprecedented opportunities for the banking industry, while ensuring clubs and leagues survive.

Greg Carey, a Goldman Sachs managing director with nearly four decades of sports financing experience, says that he has never been so busy “in 39 years of sports financing”.
